Should I apply for a Farmer/Rancher Grant?
- I am a farmer or rancher
- I have an idea for implementing a sustainable practice I’d like to try on my operation
- I can identify an adviser with whom to partner
- I am willing to take the lead on the research and outreach deliverables
- I am willing to take fiscal responsibility and submit regular reports
- My project can be completed in up to three years and within a $35,000 budget
- I understand funding does not cover start-up costs or equipment

Should I apply for a Professional + Producer Grant?
- I am an ag professional (Extension, NRCS, Conservation District, NGO, etc) who works directly with producers
- I can identify at least three producers who will be involved in a project focused on sustainable ag
- I am willing to take the lead on the research and outreach deliverables
- I am willing to take fiscal responsibility and submit regular reports
- My project can be completed in up to three years and within a $85,000 budget

Should I apply for a Graduate Student Research and Education Grant?
- I am a full-time graduate student of agricultural sciences at an accredited university
- My graduate project focuses on sustainable agriculture research and outreach
- My major professor is willing to be the Principal Investigator and take fiscal responsibility
- I can identify at least one producer who will be involved in the project
- I am willing to take the lead on the research and outreach deliverables
- I am willing to submit regular reports
- My project can be completed in up to three years and within a $30,000 budget

Should I apply for a Research and Education Grant?
- I am a researcher at a university, tribal college, NGO, or farm organization in the Western region
- I have an idea for sustainable agriculture research that can be tested through trials or on farm demonstrations
- I can pull together an interdisciplinary team of Extension/Outreach and at least three producers
- I am willing to take the lead on the research and outreach deliverables
- My institution will accept fiscal responsibility and as team lead I can submit regular reports
- My project can be completed in three years within a $350,000 budget

Should I apply for a Visiting Research and Education Grant?
- For the Host Institution
- My institution is located in the Western Region
- I can develop a research and education plan with the Visiting Researcher
- I can engage people and producers in my area
- The project will advance sustainable agriculture in the West
- My institution will accept fiscal responsibility, and as team lead I will submit regular reports
- The project is up to one year and can be completed within a $75,000 budget
- For the Visiting Researcher
- I have the support of my Home Institution and an invitation to collaborate with the Host Institution PI
- I have the capability to conduct both research and Extension/outreach activities

Should I apply for a Professional Development Grant?
- I am an ag professional (Extension, NRCS, Conservation District, NGO, etc)
- I want to implement a "train-the-trainer" program about a sustainable agriculture topic
- My project idea will increase ag professionals' sustainable agriculture knowledge, skills, and action using a multi-disciplinary approach
- I am willing to take the lead on the training deliverables, fiscal responsibility, and reporting
- My project can be completed in three years within a $100,000 budget

Should I apply for a Local Education and Demonstration Grant?
- I am an ag professional (Extension, NRCS, Conservation District, NGO, etc) who works directly with producers
- I want to implement targeted education and/or demonstration efforts about a sustainable agriculture topic to the ag community
- I have identified this topic through previously-funded SARE research
- I am willing to take fiscal responsibility and submit regular reports
- My project can be completed in up to three years and within a $60,000 budget
