Should I apply for a Farmer/Rancher Grant?
- I am a farmer or rancher
- I have an idea for implementing a sustainable practice I’d like to try on my operation
- I can identify an adviser with whom to partner
- I am willing to take the lead on the research and outreach deliverables
- I am willing to take fiscal responsibility and submit regular reports
- My project can be completed in up to three years and within a $25,000 budget
- I understand funding does not cover start-up costs or equipment
Should I apply for a Professional + Producer Grant?
- I am an ag professional (Extension, NRCS, Conservation District, NGO, etc) who works directly with producers
- I can identify at least three producers who will be involved in the planning, design, implementation, and educational outreach on a project focused on a sustainable practice
- I am willing to take the lead on the research and outreach deliverables
- I am willing to take fiscal responsibility and submit regular reports
- My project can be completed in up to three years and within a $85,000 budget
Should I apply for a Graduate Student Research and Education Grant?
- I am a full-time graduate student at a Western region accredited university in agricultural sciences
- I have an idea or am working on my graduate project focused on sustainable agriculture research and outreach
- My major professor is willing to be the Principal Investigator by supervising and taking fiscal responsibility of my project
- I can identify at least one producer who will be involved in the planning, design, implementation, and educational outreach of my project
- I am willing to take the lead on the research and outreach deliverables
- I am willing to take fiscal responsibility and submit regular reports
- My project can be completed in up to three years and within a $30,000 budget
Should I apply for a Research and Education Grant?
- I am a researcher at a Western region university, tribal college, NGO, or farm organization
- I have an idea for sustainable agriculture research that can be tested through trials or on farm demonstrations
- I can pull together an interdisciplinary team of Extension/Outreach and at least three producers
- The producers will be involved from inception to finish in the planning, design, implementation, and educational outreach
- I am willing to take the lead on the research and outreach deliverables
- My institution will accept fiscal responsibility and as team lead I can submit regular reports
- My project can be completed in three years (a second application for another three years is allowable) and within a $350,000 budget
Should I apply for a Sabbatical Research and Education Grant?
- I am eligible for Sabbatical Paid Leave for at least six months OR
- I have identified an experienced researcher to spend their sabbatical leading research at my institution
- The research and education project will advance sustainable agriculture in the West
- For the person on Sabbatical:
- I have research expertise and am willing to develop human capacity in the subject matter at the Host Institution
- I have the support of my Home Institution for this project
- I have found a Host Institution with a demonstrated record of contributions to sustainable agriculture in the Western region who will submit the proposal, coordinate the project, and manage the contract
- I have identified at least one producer partner in the location of the Host Institution
- By the time I and the Host Institution submit the proposal, I will have made all the arrangements related to the sabbatical research and education activities to be conducted at the Host Institution
- My project is short-term (up to one year) and can be completed in a $75,000 budget
Grants for Education and Outreach
Should I apply for a Professional Development Grant?
- I am an ag professional (Extension, NRCS, Conservation District, NGO, etc)
- I want to implement a "train-the-trainer" program about a sustainable agriculture topic
- My project idea will increase ag professionals' sustainable agriculture knowledge, skills, and action using a multi-disciplinary approach
- I am willing to take the lead on the training deliverables, fiscal responsibility, and reporting
- My project can be completed in three years within a $100,000 budget
Should I apply for a Local Education and Demonstration Grant?
- I am researcher, farmer, rancher or an ag professional (Extension, NRCS, Conservation District, NGO, etc)
- I want to implement targeted education and/or demonstration efforts about a sustainable agriculture topic to the ag community
- I have identified this topic through previously-funded SARE research
- I am willing to take the lead on the training deliverables, fiscal responsibility, and reporting
- My project can be completed within three years within a $60,000 budget
